Which Capital One partners are best for flights? #
Air Canada Aeroplan #
Aeroplan is the most useful all-rounder for U.S. travelers. You can book United and other Star Alliance airlines like Lufthansa, Swiss and ANA, and Aeroplan publishes award charts, so prices are predictable. It’s also known for adding few or no carrier surcharges on many partner awards, and it allows a stopover on one-way awards for a small extra points cost.
Air France-KLM Flying Blue #
Flying Blue is the easiest way to use Capital One miles for flights to Europe, and it also books Delta and other SkyTeam partners. It regularly runs discounted “Promo Rewards” on selected routes. Taxes and fees on its own flights can be noticeable, so compare the total cash cost of the award.
British Airways Club (Avios) #
Avios suit short nonstop flights. British Airways prices partner awards by distance, which can make short American Airlines and other oneworld flights cheap in Avios. Avios can also move between programs that use them, such as Qatar Airways, Iberia and Aer Lingus, which lets you pick the program with the best price or lowest fees for a given trip.
Turkish Airlines Miles&Smiles #
Turkish has long been a favorite for low-priced Star Alliance awards, including United flights. Its website can be clunky and its prices change, so price your specific trip before transferring.
Avianca LifeMiles #
LifeMiles books Star Alliance flights without carrier surcharges and often sells miles or runs transfer bonuses. It’s a good second option when Aeroplan’s price is high.
How do you book Delta or American with Capital One miles? #
Capital One doesn’t transfer to Delta or American directly. For Delta flights, look at Flying Blue, Virgin Atlantic (through Virgin Red) or Aeromexico. How to transfer Capital One miles to an airline #
- Find the award first. Search the partner’s site and confirm the seat and total cost before you move anything. Transfers can’t be reversed.
- Open your rewards in the Capital One app or website.
- Choose the airline and link your frequent flyer number. The names on both accounts should match.
- Transfer the exact amount you need, after checking the ratio, especially for 2:1.5 and 5:3 partners.
